Marcus Ericsson will stay at Sauber next year for the 2018 Formula 1 world championship.

Saturday's event showed off a new red and white livery, with Alfa Romeo branding prominent on the engine cover, and a redesigned logo.

Giovinazzi's chances seemed to have been raised by news of the Alfa Romeo deal, with speculation Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne was keen to make it a fully-fledged junior team. The news was announced Saturday as the team's Formula One vehicle was also unveiled with it's slick red and white colouring with a prominent Alfa Romeo logo.

Despite describing the launch as historic Marchionne admitted he would still spend the season cheering on Ferrari, but would be keeping a close eye on Alfa Romeo. Ferrari celebrated the 70th anniversary of his first vehicle this year.

Ferrari's late founder Enzo also started out racing and managing a team for Alfa Romeo, before setting up on his own in the late 1930s.
