Update: Former Egyptian PM Ahmed Shafiq left Emirates to Cairo: UAE news agency

Ahmed Shafiq, former Egyptian prime minister and candidate in the upcoming Egyptian presidential elections, arrived in the Egyptian capital Saturday evening, after being deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier in the day.

Source close to shafiq's family had also told Reuters earlier Saturday that Shafiq was arrested at his home in the United Arab Emirates and is being deported to Egypt.

Shafiq's lawyer, Dina Adly announced his arrest on her official Facebook page. "He confirmed that his health was good and that he was not subjected to any investigations", she wrote.

In the most recent statement, she detailed the circumstances that preceded his arrival to Cairo.

Amira Ahmed Shafik said in a voice recording sent to Bloomberg that her father was denied access to his lawyer and that they planned to sue the Egyptian authorities over his treatment.

US Stealth Jets Arrive in South Korea, North Korea Rhetoric Heats Up
The air forces of South Korea and the United States are ready for another joint exercise, set to start on Monday. Beijing has backed a slew of sanctions that include bans on imports of North Korean coal, iron ore and seafood.

An informed Egyptian source told Asharq Al-Awsat that Shafik received a deportation request from the UAE and that he was obligated to leave within two days.

On Wednesday, Shafik said in an exclusive video message to Al Jazeera that he had been blocked from leaving the UAE, hours after announcing plans to run in Egypt's 2018 presidential elections.

But critics say he has jailed hundreds of dissidents and eroded freedoms gained after the 2011 uprising that ousted former leader Hosni Mubarak.

"His daughters were shocked as numerous officials informed Shafiq that he is considered persona non grata in UAE", Adly noted.

A prominent military commander, he was appointed commander of the air force in 1996 and later minister of aviation in 2002.

EU Summit : Attendees denounce the "inhuman" treatment of migrants in Libya
The ensuing high youth unemployment has fueled protests in some African countries and supplied illegal migration to Europe. The two-day summit, now holding in Cote d'Ivoire has got African and European leaders discussing on youth investment.

State-owned newspapers published a story calling Shafiq calling "the fleeing air marshal" and said his lawyer had made deals with outlets sympathetic to the banned Muslim Brotherhood to help with Shafiq's campaign.

It is the chief prosecutor's prerogative to investigate the complaint and, depending on his decision, refer Shafiq to trial.

"I don't think that he would take such a big political risk of insulting his hosts of over five years, who effectively gave him refuge while he was facing criminal charges in Egypt".

His supporters dismiss criticism over rights abuses and say any measures are needed for security in the face of an extremist insurgency that has killed hundreds of police and soldiers in the last four years.

Russian Federation calls United States threat to destroy North Korea a 'bloodthirsty tirade'
The North Koreans want recognition above all else. "We have already said many times that sanctions pressure has exhausted itself". It recently contended nuclear weapons are necessary to ward off "repressive US imperialism".
