MI5 foils Islamist terror plot to kill the Prime Minister

A man accused of trying to assassinate British Prime Minister Theresa May in a failed terrorist plot pled not guilty to the charges on Wednesday.

"Policing and our colleagues in the fight against terrorism will continue to learn and improve", Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said in a statement Tuesday.

The force said Rahman, aged 20, had been charged with preparing acts of terrorism and assisting Imran in planning, while Imran, 21, was charged with preparing acts of terrorism.

Police believe the plotters planned to detonate an improvised explosive device at the prime minister's Downing Street offices and kill May in the chaos, Sky reported, citing people it didn't identify.

The PM's official spokesman declined to discuss the details of the attacks, but several newspapers later reported that the two men arrested in London and Birmingham last week had been behind the plot.

Terror attacks at Westminster, London Bridge, Finsbury Park, and in Manchester this year killed more than 30 people and injured hundreds more.
