A wildfire that's burned 20 homes in San Diego County is roaring westward and fire officials say it could reach the sea.

Eight SDG&E crews were scheduled to begin repairs early in the morning of about 15 to 20 poles damaged in the Lilac fire.

San Diego County was quick to proclaim a state of local emergency due to the blaze. Extreme winds are helping the fire move quickly and knocking down power lines and trees as the original fires spread. All damaged poles in the affected area will be replaced with fire-resistant steel poles with thicker, stronger wire, the utility said in its online post.
