Deportations Of Noncriminals Rise As ICE Casts Wider Net

Federal agents arrested 27 foreign nationals in West Michigan during a four-day operation targeting those in the USA illegally.

ICE deportation officers carry out targeted enforcement operations daily nationwide as part of the agency's ongoing efforts to protect the nation, uphold public safety, and protect the integrity of our immigration laws and border controls.

ICE said those who aren't facing charges are expected to be deported.

Nine people were arrested in Covington, one in Erlanger, six in Florence, four in Newport and two in Walton, officials said.

If you want to touch somebody, you have people on your side of the aisle who might like it. "We're officially off the rails". The Pennsylvania Democrats asked Metcalfe to step down in the past over what they called his "repeated racism".

Aliens arrested during this operation are from Guatemala (16) Mexico (5) and Zimbabwe (1). Of those arrested, 20 are men; two are women. Arrests of undocumented immigrants with no criminal convictions actually represented the largest increase in types of arrests.

People with no criminal convictions accounted for 17 percent of those deported after getting arrested by ICE within the country ― a sharp increase since former President Barack Obama's last full year in office, when those without criminal convictions made up 8 percent of interior deportations.

The number of administrative arrests-those of immigrants who are found in violation of civil immigration laws-jumped after the executive order, ICE noted, increasing by 30 percent in FY2017 to over 143,000, the highest number of administrative arrests over the past three fiscal years. Of them, 59 percent had an unresolved criminal charge, according to ICE.

Homan said that even without Obama-era priorities, ICE agents were not doing indiscriminate sweeps. However, it's important to note that the four largest categories of criminality among those arrested were driving under the influence, "dangerous drugs", "immigration", and "traffic offenses".

The number of ICE arrests carried out in public, rather than through a transfer from a jail or prison, rose by more than 30 percent to almost 41,000.

ICE made 10,000 more "at-large" arrests, which are arrests that occur within a community as opposed to in a jail or prison setting, in FY2017 than during the prior year. "They put communities more at risk for more arrests".

Alberico said more information would be released Friday.

During the targeted enforcement operations, ICE officers frequently encounter other aliens illegally present in the United States.
