Cold temperatures expected through Tuesday prompt wind chill advisory, warning

A Wind Chill Advisory is issued when cold will combine with wind to produce unsafe wind chill values below zero. Northerly winds of 10-20 m.p.h., will create unsafe wind chills this morning and tonight while many will be celebrating New Year's Eve. A Wind Chill Advisory is also in effect from 10 p.m. this evening through noon Monday for all of the Four State region. Wet winter weather will not impact travel or road conditions through the holiday.

Arctic Blast expected into the New Year
A freeze watch has been issued for late Monday through Tuesday morning A hard freeze also is forecast Wednesday morning. The winter of 1904-1905 was the coldest in the D.C. area with an average temperature of just 29 degrees.

Wind chill warnings are set for parts of northern and central IL on Sunday, with forecast wind chills of between -20 to -35 Sunday night into New Year's Day and Tuesday morning. The warmest day in the forecast is Monday, with a high of 43 and a chance of snow. Winds with gusts as high as 21 miles per hour can be expected.
