Two injured in explosion at Stockholm subway station

The blast took place at about 11am on Sunday, just outside the Varby Gard underground station in Huddinge, a residential district in greater Stockholm, said regional police spokesman Sven-Erik Olsson.

According to local media, a 60-year-old man is critical condition, because the device exploded in his hands as he lifted it from the ground.

A woman aged 45 was also hurt, suffering facial injuries, police said.

Police have cordoned off an area outside the entrance to the metro station Varby Gard, and are investigating the incident.

Police checked in and around the station after the blast to make sure there were no other explosive devices.

"It is too early to say", Mr Olsson said. Technicians are still working on it.
