Google And Lenovo Unveil The Mirage Solo VR Headset With 6DoF

The Lenovo Mirage Solo VR headset was previously leaked, when it appeared in an FCC filing over Christmas a year ago, but now we know much more about it.

It's such a good idea in fact that the big names in VR are bringing out similar headsets of their own in the near future, in the form of the Oculus Go and the HTC Vive Focus.

In fact, it's the very first standalone VR headset to use the platform, and it uses a new chipset from Intel: the Snapdragon 835 VR Platform.

The Mirage Solo is nearly like the lovechild of the PSVR headset and the Google Daydream View, combining their sheer simplicity in design with impressive functionality that enhances the VR experience during marathon sessions. The headset is the first to use Google's WorldSense technology, which enables the headset to track where you are in a room without using external sensors. There is also a tripod mount on the bottom, so you could theoretically mount it on a tripod and get some really stable images. In a written announcement, Google Vice-President of Virtual and Augmented Reality Clay Bavor explains why the new hardware is more immersive thanks to the WorldSense technology developed by Google.

2 militants killed in encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir
The encounter comes a day after one militant was killed in a similiar gunfight in central Kashmir's Budgam district on Monday. Two persons received bullet injuries with one of them succumbing to his injuries at the hospital, they said.

In addition to the Mirage Solo, Lenovo has also introduced the Mirage Camera with Daydream. The display is a 5.5-inch 2560×1440 WQHD display. Initially Lenovo told us it would cost $450 but clearly realized this was too steep - that's higher than the price of the Oculus Rift - and has adjusted course. Around to the other end, you have your volume controls and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It can also be viewed in 2D on mobile or desktop through Google Photos and YouTube.

Bareda said that earlier launch of the AR/VR headset linked to Star Wars was a resounding success and the latest device would bring in more capabilities as it has tied up with Google Daydream 2.0 platform. Google says that YI will have a camera out this Spring (seen above). LG also plans to release a 180-degree camera "later this year". Meanwhile, other companies like Z Cam and Panasonic are offering VR180 devices aimed at professionals.

More options to get involved with VR experiences could accelerate adoption of this still-nascent technology. Fully compatible with a range of Daydream peripherals like the controller, steering wheel and bats, you can engage on a wide variety of adventures. Marketers will want to keep an eye on how popular VR experiences become and judge for themselves when it's time to jump into the new format.
