ISRO begins countdown to launch 31 satellites tomorrow

The launch follows the failed August 31 mission where after a stable launch, the backup navigation satellite IRNSS-1H PSLV-39 suffered from a technical fault in its final leg and could not be put back in orbit.

# "The micro satellite will be India's 100th satellite in space", ISRO Satellite Centre Director M. Annadurai said.

This will be the third satellite in the Cartosat-2 series. Though PSLV has seamlessly carried out 39 consecutive successfully launches, the last failure has thrown up several questions on the technology being used. "So far Cartosat performance is satisfactory", he said at the mission control room. The rocket's shield had failed to separate, due to which the satellite could not launch. "As a result of that the satellite is inside the heat shield.", ISRO chairman A S Kiran Kumar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI on August 31.

ISRO's launch vehicle Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) C-40 will carry the satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC) in Sriharikota on January 12. The lift-off was postponed by a minute from 9:28 am as there was fear of collision due to space debris.

"The propellant filling operation of the fourth stage of PSLV-C40 is under progress", said an update on ISRO's website on Thursday. This took slightly more time for PSLV-C40 launch. "We are coming to the launch pad after four months".

"The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C40) deployed India's 710-kg Cartosat and 10-kg nano satellite and 100-kg micro-sat along with 28 foreign satellites into the Earth's orbit after a flawless lift-off from the launch pad", said outgoing Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman A.S.
