Daria Gavrilova confident of Australian Open Success

Former world number one Angelique Kerber continued her 2018 resurgence with a 6-4 6-4 win over Ashleigh Barty in the Sydney International final on Saturday, giving herself a welcome boost ahead of next week's Australian Open.

Gavrilova, Australia's second highest-ranked woman at No.25 in the world, was left frustrated by her errors, notably one of seven double faults serving into the net twice at 4-all in the second set.

"I am playing awesome tennis again and feeling just great", said Kerber. "To be honest, I felt like I probably played some of the better tennis that I have this week", Barty said. "It feels very good to win my first title in my first tournament this year", Kerber said. "Juan Martin is a great champion, he's very tough to beat and I played two wonderful games in the last two games of the match".

Today Kerber won 74% first serve points, and saved five break points out of six. The victory continues her fine start to 2018, having now won eight consecutive matches including the Hopman Cup and Sydney victories against Venus Williams and Dominika Cibulkova.

"I think there is that mutual respect, which is fantastic to get respect from such a champion like Angie". "The draw was also not easy, but I was not seeded, so that was also what I was expecting from the beginning, to have really tough matches", she added. "Still, I'm just trying to focus on every match, trying to learn from every single match", Kerber said.

"Last year I actually didn't play that well (in the Australian Open) but I was just competing, I was fighting hard. Hopefully, I can go bigger and better next week".

Existing laws that deal with crimes against women could possibly be expanded to include crimes against children, he suggested. It is the 12th such murder in the town of Kasur in a year, and has raised concerns that a serial killer may be on the loose.

Kerber has been drawn to face fellow German Anna-Lena Friedsam in the Australian Open first round, while Barty plays Aryna Sabalenka.

Now ranked outside the world's top 20, Kerber's form so far suggests that she has what it takes to reclaim her former mantle as the best player on the WTA tour. But Angie is on fire.

"The crowd was phenomenal".

Spurs chairman makes bold claim over futures of Kane and Alli
Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen joined an National Basketball Association clinic in London faced each other in a bit of one-on-one. Tottenham's last trophy was the League Cup in 2008. "He always wants to win".

Should Kerber and Sharapova both win their opening two matches, they will square off in a mouth-watering third-round clash made all the more spicy by recent tension between the pair. Regardless whether you're No.1, No.10, or 100 in the world, it's the best feeling for an Australian to be playing at the Australian Open.
