Amazon Prime Exclusive phones remove lockscreen ads

This morning Amazon made a move to bring their Prime Exclusive Android phones into the future.

Amazon has announced it is dumping the lock-screen ads from its Prime Exclusive Phone program. It's also unclear if smaller, notification-based ads will still appear over the devices.

Thanks to facial recognition and fingerprint sensors, most people don't really look at their lock screens anymore.

Kenyan opposition politician charged over mock inauguration
The original election in August was annulled by the Supreme Court, which described it as "neither transparent nor verifiable". Odinga's fake inauguration last week was attended by tens of thousands of opposition supporters in the capital, Nairobi.

Existing Prime devices should receive an update to the Amazon offers app, which will wipe the lock-screen ads.

Amazon has been offering certain unlocked Android phones as Prime Exclusives since 2016. Here's the full statement. The reason Amazon's done this is likely different from what you'd expect. Essentially, it means that Amazon Prime members can now buy certain Android phones for a lower cost than nearly anywhere else, without the compromise of dealing with Amazon ads on their lock screens.

But starting tomorrow, it's going to be a lot harder to complain since Amazon will be issuing a software update to all phones that it sells to remove those advertisements.

Mourinho, Ferguson join fans at 60th anniversary of Munich air disaster
He recalled the incident and the events after that have defined the club in subsquent years. In all, eight Manchester United players lost their lives as a result of the crash.

Amazon explains that the ads are being removed in order to "ensure customers can easily use features such as the phone's mobile unlock technologies like facial recognition and fingerprint sensors, as well as be able to personalize device lockscreens with photos or wallpapers". If Amazon made a lock-screen app and preloaded it, it would be allowed to show lock-screen ads again, but as it stands, the ads are made through the "Amazon offers" app, which would seem to be in violation of the Play Store rules. There will also be a Special Offers widget on the home screen.

Apparently, the bloatware will remain but can be uninstalled or hidden if you don't use it. Ditching the ads makes the Prime Edition phones even better deals than they already were.
