$560m Powerball winner is a NH woman - and she's fighting in court to stay anonymous

One very lucky New Hampshire woman is the victor of last month's $560 million Powerball-but she wants to keep her identity a secret.

"Don't sign that back of the ticket because if you sign it you lost confidentiality", he says.

"She has described the signing as 'a huge mistake, '" according to court records filed by her legal counsel at Hillsborough County Superior Court South in Nashua.

New Hampshire is one of a handful of states that allows trusts to anonymously claim lottery prizes.

Her suit lists the many ills that have befallen past lottery winners, who have been murdered or besieged by con artists, friends and strangers all seeking a piece of their wealth.

Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong walks free after court ruling
Wong, Law and Chow became the public face of the protests, which called for fully democratic elections for Hong Kong's leadership. The move was broadly seen as an attempt to sideline the popular young pro-democratic figures and intimidate other activists.

Gordon calls her "an engaged community member" who "wishes to continue this work and [keep] the freedom to walk into a grocery store or attend public events without being known or targeted as the victor of a half-billion dollars".

The woman, identified as Jane Doe, filed a complaint last week in Hillsborough Superior Court in Nashua saying she signed the back of the ticket following the January 6 drawing. The Associated Press reports the woman however contacted a lawyer who said she could avoid the law by claiming the prize as a trust.

When the winning numbers were first announced, she didn't believe she had won.

"When they came in, he said: 'Don't do it, bro".

Court documents cited by Newhampshire.com show the woman is now fighting to stay anonymous, fearing that being revealed as the owner of almost a billion dollars would place her privacy and safety at risk.

TAIWAN: Major Quake Collapses Buildings in Hualien
Some 88 soldiers were helping the local fire service respond at the hotel, and another 250 were on standby to help. The quake struck late Tuesday 13.3 miles northeast of Hualien on the island's east coast, according to the U.S.

"She wishes to be a silent witness to these good works". She thought she was required to do so as directed by information on the state lottery commission's website.

She has therefore since created a trust, "through which she intends to distribute her winnings", including contributing a portion to a charitable foundation.

"The New Hampshire Lottery understands that winning a $560 million Powerball jackpot is a life-changing occurrence", Charlie McIntyre, the New Hampshire Lottery's executive director, said in a statement. But he said procedures are in place for the security and integrity of the lottery. "While we regard this present player's want to stay mysterious, state statutes and lottery controls unmistakably manage conventions".

Publicity brings significant apparent risk to lottery winners.

A hearing has been set for February 21 to address the woman's request.
