Storm to clobber US Midwest with snow and frigid temperatures

Snow is expected to develop Friday evening across the southwest and spread north and east through the night.

Freezing rain was responsible for numerous accidents, spinouts and crashes from Texas to Arkansas and into the Ohio Valley overnight as a potent winter storm moves into the Northeast on Wednesday.

In Kalamazoo and Jackson counties, accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are forecast.

The Big Winner in the Waymo-Uber Trial
Waymo filed its lawsuit against Uber a year ago , claiming the company used stolen self-driving auto trade secrets. That's interesting, especially since the trade secrets at the heart of the case were all related to hardware.

By noon, more than 1,300 flights had been scrapped and another 1,390 delayed largely at Chicago O'Hare, Chicago Midway and Detroit, according to flight-tracking service FlightAware.

Schools and travel saw major impacts across the Midwest on Friday as Winter Storm Mateo dumped inches of snow across a large section of the nation's heartland.

The National Weather Service has just downgraded the Winter Storm Warning in the Quad Cities to a Winter Weather Advisory. Wind chill values may drop down to -5° at times early Thursday morning. This system will be quite a bit different from the one we saw on Monday as snow is expected to fall over a much longer period of time and the wind direction and speed will be almost opposite.

Hazard: This season is different
This time previous year , Chelsea would have been the favourites going into a game with Pep Guardiola's side. Arsene Wenger's side are now languishing sixth in the Premier League table amid a hard season.

City officials announced school closures on Friday in Chicago, Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan because of the weather. It shows a widespread area of moderate to occasionally heavy snow over much of the southern half of Lower Michigan.

A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for a large portion of the D.C. metro area.

While not the coldest day on record, the amount of snow expected to fall in the next 24 hours is a cause for concern.
