House intelligence committee votes to make classified Democrat memo public

The US Justice Department's third-ranking official, Rachel Brand, will resign and take a senior job at Walmart Inc, with sources familiar with her decision saying on Friday that she had grown increasingly uncomfortable with President Donald Trump's attacks on her department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Sources say Brand, who has only spent nine months on the job, is leaving to take a position in a Fortune 500 company.

The Justice Department's third-ranking official, Rachel Brand, resigned Friday, according to a person familiar with the matter, adding to the turmoil at an agency facing multiple vacancies and criticism from various sources, including the White House.

Steelers hire Tom Bradley/Carnell Lake out
At least half of the Tide's 10-person staff will be coaches who weren't with last season's national championship-winning team. He spent one season with the Chicago Bears (2004), before moving onto the Vikings where he coached from 2006-2011.

Brand serves directly behind Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is number two in command behind Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The department said Brand will be leaving her post in the coming weeks. As one of five Senate-confirmed members of the panel, she provided advice and oversight for USA counter-terrorism agencies. She was in line to oversee the investigation if Rosenstein stepped down. President Trump has reportedly considered firing Rosenstein.

A graduate of Harvard Law School, where she was deputy editor-in-chief of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, Brand clerked on the Massachusetts Supreme Court, and then on the U.S. Supreme Court for Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Winter Storm Forecast Improving; Nearly 7 Inches Today, 10+ By Sunday

The associate attorney general had been an advocate for the reauthorizing of section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. She helped lead the department's effort to extend a law that authorizes the National Security Agency's warrantless surveillance program. Unlike other top officials, she has not been personally targeted by Trump.

Before her confirmation in May, she served for five years on the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, an appointee of President Obama. She was publicly active in her role as recently as last week, when she keynoted a summit on human trafficking in Washington, DC. When controversy over Sessions and Rosenstein's future brewed last summer, some speculated she might, at least temporarily, take the reins at the Justice Department.

No immediate reason for Brand's and her assistant, Currie Gunn, decision to leave was forthcoming.
