White House tell agencies to prepare for shutdown as Rand Paul holds up key vote

Following the Senate's lead, the House of Representatives passed a major budget deal early Friday morning, ending a brief overnight government shutdown that occurred after Sen. The House rushed to approve its version, wrapping up the vote just after 5:30 a.m. President Donald Trump signed the bill three hours later, reopening the government.

On Friday morning, Trump touted his signing of the bill.

A carefully crafted, bipartisan stopgap funding and budget package was introduced with confidence earlier this week by Senate leaders, who predicted swift passage before the expiration at midnight on Thursday of current funding authority.

Friday's shutdown lasted just a few hours, while an earlier partial government shutdown in January was resolved after a three-day standoff, Efe reported.

US Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) has released a statement following his vote against the budget agreement.

On Sept. 5, President Trump terminated the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, the Obama-era initiative that has protected almost 800,000 of them from deportation.

Kane soars as Spurs edge Arsenal
He wore the Arsenal shirt 143 times between 2006-09 before later switching to Spurs , where he played 106 games between 2011-2015. Petr Cech could be the only exception if the same team features in the North London Derby after going off injured last weekend.

Such disputes won't help the party energize the Hispanic and liberal voters it will need as it tries capturing House and perhaps Senate control in November. Rand Paul prevented the deal from advancing Thursday. "I didn't come up here to be liked", Paul said.

The deal is the fifth temporary government funding measure for the fiscal year that began on 1 October and replenishes federal coffers until 23 March, giving lawmakers more time to write a full-year budget.

A second official said White House employees were expected to come to work as usual.

As Senator Paul pointed out, the 650-page spending plan was only made public on Wednesday night, so many details remain unclear.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi voted against the bill due to congressional inaction on protections for DREAMers.

Pelosi and other Democrats have called on House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis.to hold open debate on immigration legislation, but so far Ryan has resisted, saying he will only bring up a bill that Trump supports.

Yoel Romero misses weight ahead of UFC 221 fight with Luke Rockhold
Rockhold, meanwhile, rebounded from losing his title to Michael Bisping at UFC 199 by pounding out David Branch in September. Rockhold and Romero had to be separated during their face-off at the first weigh-in.

Ryan, who needed Democratic votes to pass the budget deal, promised to bring a bill forward, but his assurances were too vague to satisfy Democrats.

He said he hoped his stand would teach conservatives "to not accept just anything because it comes from a GOP Congress".

"We will effectively shut down the federal government for no good reason", said Senator John Cornyn, as his requests to move to a vote were repeatedly rejected by Mr Paul.

Still, it represented a bitter defeat for Democrats who followed a risky strategy to use the party's leverage on the budget to address immigration and ended up scalded by last month's shutdown.

That agreement includes a $300 billion increase to both military and non-military spending limits for this year and 2019, and raises the debt until March 1 next year. The budget deal approved by Congress matters a lot to the Pentagon, and for domestic programs for opioids, health centers and research funding. "We will solve this DACA problem", he said. "I think it's an important enough thing that we should have a discussion over".

The Senate had already approved the bipartisan spending legislation that will extend funding to the government through March 23 and boost disaster aid funding by around $90 billion for Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico that were battered by hurricanes previous year.
