In Pyeongchang, High Winds Are No Breeze for Athletes

High winds wreaked havoc in a controversial women's slopestyle competition and forced the postponement of Mikaela Shiffrin's first gold medal bid, but they couldn't stop Canada from breezing to double gold in Pyeongchang Monday.

The strong winds meant that once again, US skier Mikaela Shiffrin's first medal race in South Korea would be put off.

Friday also will be a double-competition day, with the women's slalom at the Yongpyong Alpine Center that hosts technical races, and the men's super-G at the Jeongseon Alpine Center speed hill about 30 miles (50 kilometers) away.

The women's slalom became the third Alpine ski race to be postponed at the Olympics.

She took to the floor for " one minute " and used it to launch an epic eight-hour speech in which she told immigrant stories. The Republican side of the chamber was virtually empty. "They are a reflection of all the immigrants that have come before".

Today's ladies' Slalom was delayed twice and then finally postponed until Friday due to adverse weather conditions at Yongpyong Alpine Centre.

"We are on day three, so, come back on day 14 and we can discuss it again", Adams told journalists when asked about pushing back the end date of the Games.

The wind gusts have been strong enough to push people around; by evening, metal detectors outside venues and all signage were laid down on the ground, to prevent them from being picked up by the gusts. Slalom's second run is set for 1:45 p.m. local time (11:45 p.m. ET Wednesday).

Seth Rubinroit of NBC Olympics noted Shiffrin became the youngest Olympic slalom champion in Sochi and proceeded to sweep the ensuing slalom gold medals at the World Championships.

Security forces also uncovered and destroyed six farms used to grow banned narcotics, the statement said. Last year, militants attacked a Sufi mosque in the region, killing 311 worshipers.

Additionally, Svindal and Jansrud could join Aamodt as the only Norwegian alpine skiers with multiple Olympic gold medals. "Now we're going to get ready for giant slalom, so there's going to be giant slalom training this afternoon".

Initially slated for a 10:15 am (0115 GMT) start, FIS said the first run of the slalom was now scheduled to start at 1145 am at the earliest.

Kristofic added, "We've been through days like this before, in World Cup, quite often and the number one thing is safety and the second thing is to have a good, fair race".

"It's a bummer that we're not able to race today", Shiffrin said.

Tom Davies added a third before Luka Milivojevic converted an 83rd-minute penalty to pull one back. "Surprised, very surprised. On Merseyside, the Eagles were competent in the opening 45 minutes, but they were only threatened on a handful of occasions.

"Well, it compresses the schedule, so it makes for a more hectic five, six days as we approach into the speed events", USA women's head coach Paul Kristofic said. No one has ever won all five at an Olympic games, man or woman.
