THESE 25 distressed Overseas Filipino Workers from Kuwait feel relieved as they arrive in the country at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 onboard Philippines Airlines Flight PR 669

Twenty-five distressed overseas Filipino workers from Kuwait arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport yesterday morning. "If (Filipino) workers want to stay in Kuwait, the decision is theirs", he added.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III is set to issue on Monday a total deployment ban order of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Kuwait.

"We will hold Kuwait responsible under the concept of state responsibility", Roque told reporters.

Kuwait's embassy in Manila declined to comment.

"So everyone who wants to come home, I said to Secretary Bello, those who want to be repatriated, with or without money, I will ask PAL and Cebu Pacific to provide the transportation", President Rodrigo Duterte said in the news conference.

Some 150 OFWs were initially scheduled to arrive in Manila but 12 of them did not show up while the other 22 were held by Kuwait authorities due to their pending cases, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said.

Personally, I have a mini freak out session even time there's a long crowd at a train station pushing me to go first. The incident took place on February 11, days before China's upcoming Lunar New Year, to be celebrated on February 16.

"We are looking at countries like Oman and Bahrain, where there is no complaint of abuse of our countrymen", he said.

The official said that hundreds of Filipinos have been coming to the Philippine embassy in Kuwait daily to register and initiate the process for their repatriation since the first day of the amnesty on Jan 29.

Duterte on February 9 said he wanted to bring home the Filipino workers in Kuwait within 72 hours after a Filipina, identified as Joanna Daniela Dimapilis, was found dead in a freezer in an uninhabited apartment in Kuwait.

Those who would be flown home would be assisted in finding employment, Cayetano said, adding the 400 were just a small portion of the estimated 10,000 Filipinos who had signed up for the repatriation. Unexplained deaths were also reported in the Gulf state involving Filipino household service workers.

The body showed signs of torture and broken bones meaning she was killed before being placed in the freezer, he confirmed.

The Philippines is heavily reliant on the remittances these workers send home, and remittances keep the economy afloat.

He said that minimum wages will also be revised to Rs 340. "Authorities here work under CPI (M)'s pressure", Shah added. During this rally, Sarkar also urged the "peace-loving people" of Tripura to defeat all "communal and divisive forces".

The Philippines is one of the primary sources of domestic workers overseas, including Singapore, China's Hong Kong and Middle East countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

"I could not stomach this". Duterte said on Friday that the suspension would be indefinite.

Arman Hernando, head of Migrante-Philippines, a migrant workers' group, said the ban would serve as a wake-up call for the Kuwaiti government to respect Filipino workers. We must not forget that our government still has the primary responsibility to protect our OFWs. Hopefully, there will be bilateral agreements soon, Roque said.

"The fact that many of our OFWs are exposed to, and have been victims of rights abuses says something about the government's effectivity in protecting our OFWs", he said.

Reaching a dead-end, the OWWA administrator said authorities stopped the search for the missing domestic worker.
